| This panel has been adapted from a detail of the 594 cm long gesso panel 'The Seven Princesses' created for the music room in the Viennese house of Austrian businessman Fritz Waerendorfer room in 1906 by Margaret. The original panel was thought to be lost after the destruction of the room during the First World War, until it was rediscovered in 1990. The Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna has since carried out extensive restoration and conservation work on the panel. Umbriel was inspired by one of the flanking princesses in the original panel. These panels will be produced in a limited edition of 250. An artist in her own right, Margaret Macdonald, was responsible for many of the decorative panels and other features of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's interiors. They met while at Glasgow School of Art. Together with her sister Frances, and his friend Herbert MacNair, they became known as The Four, leaders in the Glasgow Style of Art Nouveau. Forecast Sculptures' panels, although inspired by the originals of Margaret Macdonald, are not replicas. To suit today's home environment, they have been reduced in size by up to 50%, therefore some detail has been simplified to keep the impression of the originals. |
